Local Slobs Ignore Community ‘Clean-up Day” in Cobleskill

This Earth Day, the Village of Cobleskill saw a host of events related to green activities and green awareness. One such event was a community-wide “clean-up” in Cobleskill where participants spread out and cover the Village gathering up litter and debris. Nearly every year, events like these help to foster civic pride, community awareness and an ecologically responsible lifestyle.

However, for a group who describe themselves as “cleanliness-challenged”, this Earth Day’s Clean-up was nothing but a big waste of time. One young man, who can often be seen carousing around Veterans Park bare-chested and smoking cigarettes, say’s he doesn’t care if he sees people picking up garbage; he will continue to litter anyway. Several others with stain-covered clothes and uncombed hair looked bewildered as groups of citizens of all ages stuffed litter into giant bags throughout the day. One wondered, “why would they be doing all this when they could be sitting around, watching TV, and dropping crumbs on themselves”?

Another baffled resident looked on from her apartment, where dishes were piled in the sink and personal belongings were strewn chaotically on the floor. Why bother to clean up she wondered, when its so easy just to ignore the messiness and clutter and put off cleaning up?

She offered her opinion of the motives of the people involved in the clean-up. “They’re probably a bunch of neurotic neat freaks obsessed with cleanliness and order”, she said.

Others interviewed expressed sympathy for the participants but said they didn’t have the time to get involved in such a clean-up, maintaining that eventually they would get around to it.

Most of the people interviewed confessed to being “slobs” and said that “clean-ups” weren’t really there thing. However, they all insisted that they would like to get involved in the community in other ways, as long as they didn’t conflict with their chosen lifestyle.

As long as there is governmental support for parasites that continue to feed off of the system (and Coby has their share living on Main St) the rest of society will flip the bill and continue to gaze in amazement as to how backward some people are.
But in reality, there is a definite need for these people, as the liberals of our community need to cleanse their consciousness by espousing the cause of the poor and less fortunate. America is (was) the richest country in the world, land, resources, wealth. To remain poor in this country you are either very stupid or very lazy, as a first generation immigrant I can attest to that. Responsibility, that’s the key word, someone always takes responsibility for the actions or inactions of the so called poor and underprivileged, hence the virus perpetuates, but soon it will end, because the money will end (or become extremely devalued).
Then nature will take over and its very efficient selective process will clean up.

"As long as there is governmental support for parasites that continue to feed off of the system"

...you mean, like Wal-Mart?

"But in reality, there is a definite need for these people"

Yes, so arrogant douches have someone to kick around to feel better about themselves.

"To remain poor in this country you are either very stupid or very lazy, as a first generation immigrant I can attest to that"

Being a first-generation immigrant doesn't give you the ability to attest to anything, especially a statement as moronic as this one. Just because your hard work may have paid off, does not mean it will for everyone else, because it surely doesn't.

You're one of the lucky ones. At least until your job gets outsourced or until high gas prices started eating away at your business.

"Then nature will take over and its very efficient selective process will clean up."

No, the result would be something like Victorian London with poor people and orphans starving in the streets. Anything but clean.

But whatever... Have fun being a crazy right wing bastard!

It's certainly your right as a (first-generation) American.

Gosh, how I love that word "flip". As in www.timesunion.com/realestate......input MLS#28102481. Just who is trying to uh, flip that anyway? Oh, and about say, last week or so, the description of the parcel also included something like "Empire Zone" eligible(?), designated(?) and, that $100,000 was the minimum price per acre, depending upon location. Guess the real estate agent was instructed to "cleanse" their listing...

I love the view point of pseudo-elitist liberals, which by the way is the prime reason for the down fall of all societies throughout the history of man. And BTW, I am not a right wing fanatic (crazy yes but right wing no) personally I find detesting what the so called GOP has done to this country and the ideals espoused by the right wing radicals since Regan took office and up to this very day with that shrub that resides on Penn Avenue.

But people like yourself that espouse these great humanitarian ideals for the less fortunate aspects of society fall short of providing fiscal plans and concrete solutions (mainly because they do not exist in a politically correct world created by you and your cronies) to support them, and rely on the only other option: public funding or someone else who will be responsible. Not to say that the republicans are not doing the same by funding wars and providing billions in aid to so called “allied” nations, but you are the flip side of the coin. They piss money and you piss money, especially if it’s not yours.

If you knew my background and the sewer I had to crawl out of to succeed, perhaps you would understand, but people like you sit back and ponder the theory of society, you attempt to reach a deep philosophical way of thinking and convince yourself that you are above all else a thinker (and a benevolent one at that). Truth of the matter is, you probably grew up privileged and now feel guilt, hence your views.

Life is very basic, if you work, save, build and create then you will succeed. If you are brainwashed by the media and society , and in turn spend your money on trinkets, vanity, vacations, and all other useless items that hold no value (unlike sound real estate), then you are stupid and deserve to perish.

You my friend are like a life preserver on a sinking ship that has a hole in it, eventually the preserver will give away and that person will meet his/her predetermined fate, indifferent of all the delay tactics caused by you the GREAT THINKER.

Finaly someone with realistic views. Hard working Americans are tired of feeding the less fortunate. It's always some program or another to bail out some idiot for their blunders. Now they want to bail out the morons that overextended themselves by levereging their home equity and are in risk of loosing their home.
And you know who those idiots are, the ones that wanted bigger and newer cars, hi tech entertainment systems, disney vacations, so they used that wonderful concept of "artificial or imaginary equity" to generate spending cash, and spend they did.
Will you Mr. Avalon help me in 10 years as well, when all the public funding will be gone because the government will by then be bankrupt or the dollar devalued to crap. What will you do when all these displaced idiots come to your house for help, call 911 or tell them that you fought valiantly for their cause back in the day. There are darker days ahead so you may have to tweek your thinking or perish yourself. And by the way, hard work and sound saving has never worked to anyones detriment. Sloth and stupidity, Yes.

Wow, surely you must have some kind of educational background in world history or political science to be able to make such a claim and back it up intelligently.

Clearly, that makes you an elitist pig!

"If you knew my background and the sewer I had to crawl out of to succeed, perhaps you would understand"

So your the kind of person that wants to get to the top and knock the ladder down, or in your case slam the manhole cover down?

Fact is, millions of people come from a hard background and don't become social Darwinist libertarians who want to piss on poor people as soon as they are lucky enough to get to higher ground.

"Truth of the matter is, you probably grew up privileged and now feel guilt, hence your views."

No, actually you have no idea how I grew up and this statement just shows the distorted reality you're living in and how you rely on baseless personal attacks to make your point (whatever the hell it is).

Look, I don't have anything against you personally. But your views on politics and economics are warped.

The majority of people in this country are working class (Who like to think of themselves as middle class). They work hard but are constantly losing ground because the one percent at the top don't quite control enough of the money yet. So they want to constantly trash the public sector and the social safety net. So what do they do, they use the media to demonize poor people as lazy bums wasting taxpayers money.

They pit one half of the working class against the other. Remember Jay Gould?

Your delusion is a product of this planned capitalist divestiture in America's social and economic fabric.

"Life is very basic, if you work, save, build and create then you will succeed"

Isn't this what they told the employees of Enron and all the other companies that went belly-up while their CEOs parachuted out with their pension $?

And now for the other guy...

"Hard working Americans are tired of feeding the less fortunate"

This has got to be one of the most laughable and misguided statements I've heard yet. This should be in a museum.

Do some research and then tell me how much of your tax dollar is going to help poor people versus going to support the rich.

"It's always some program or another to bail out some idiot for their blunders"

Do you mean the Wall Street investment company that just got 30billion dollars to protect them from their bad investments in subprime mortgages?

"And you know who those idiots are, the ones that wanted bigger and newer cars, hi tech entertainment systems, disney vacations, so they used that wonderful concept of "artificial or imaginary equity" to generate spending cash, and spend they did."

Oh yes, this is correct. Unfortunately, the sad truth is many people are actually using their imaginary equity to leverage a tank of gas and buy food. Lot's of people are living off it and just scraping by.

Still, I don't know why you lay this at MY doorstep. I'm not the banker foreclosing on their homes. I'm not the one who sucked them into awful mortgages.

"What will you do when all these displaced idiots come to your house for help, call 911 or tell them that you fought valiantly for their cause back in the day. There are darker days ahead"

How do you know we won't be coming to YOUR house?

Anyone try out the awesome buffet that opened up in Coby. I was impressed, granted I eat that crap only once every six months, but the quality, volume and price will certainly attibute to some serious obesity in the next few months. I was impressed.
